Ghan Jeevamrutham (Solid Jeevamrutham)

Ghan Jeevamrutham is the dry, solid form of Jeevamrutham โ€” designed for long-term storage and application at planting time when liquid daily sprays aren't feasible.

"Ghan" (เค˜เคจ) = solid/dense in Hindi.

Why It Exists

Liquid Jeevamrutham must be used within 7 days of preparation and applied every 15โ€“21 days. During the busy sowing period, farmers may not have time for liquid preparation. Ghan Jeevamrutham solves this:

  • Made in bulk during off-season
  • 6-month shelf life if kept dry
  • Applied once at sowing, directly in seed furrow or mixed into topsoil
  • No need for daily stirring or immediate use

Preparation

IngredientQuantity
Cow dung (fresh, desi)100 kg
Jaggery1 kg
Pulse flour (any)1 kg
Cow urineEnough to make crumbly (not wet) mixture
Forest soil (old tree base)1 handful

Steps:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together
  2. Add cow urine gradually while mixing โ€” target consistency: crumbly, holds shape when pressed but not wet or sticky
  3. Spread in 3โ€“5 cm thick layer in shaded area
  4. Dry slowly in shade โ€” UV destroys microbes (never in direct sun)
  5. Dry to 10โ€“12% moisture content (crumbles without sticking to fingers)
  6. Store in gunny bags in cool, dry, shaded location

Drying time: 3โ€“7 days depending on humidity and ventilation.

Application

MethodRateTiming
Broadcast + incorporation50โ€“100 kg/acreAt land preparation, 7โ€“10 days before sowing
Seed furrow application25โ€“50 kg/acreAt time of sowing, directly in furrow
Planting hole100โ€“200 g per holeFor transplants (vegetables, fruit trees)

Mix into top 5 cm of soil at application โ€” don't leave on surface where UV will kill microbes.

Ideal Use Case

Use Ghan Jeevamrutham:

  • At sowing time when farm is busiest
  • For seed furrow application in large fields
  • In kharif season when rains may prevent daily trips to field
  • When building a reserve for year-round use

Use Liquid Jeevamrutham:

  • During growing season for biweekly soil drenching
  • Through drip irrigation
  • For foliar applications (combined with Panchagavya)

Many farms use both: Ghan at sowing, liquid throughout the season.
