PKVY — The Primary Organic Scheme

This is the most important scheme for transitioning farmers:

  • ₹50,000 per hectare spread over 3 years
  • Covers: input costs, certification fees, training, marketing support
  • Requirement: Must form or join a cluster of 50+ farmers (20 hectares minimum cluster)
  • Application: Through state agriculture department or local KVK

How to Access These Schemes

  1. Visit your nearest Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) — they handle applications for most central schemes
  2. Form or join a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) — many schemes require group applications
  3. Register on the PM-Kisan portal — many scheme eligibilities link to this database
  4. Contact district agriculture officer — for PKVY cluster formation specifically

Soil Health Card — Don't Skip This Free Benefit

Every farmer is entitled to a free soil test every 2 years under this scheme. It provides pH, OC, NPK, and micronutrient status — the exact data needed to plan organic transition. Apply through your local agriculture office; most farmers haven't used this entitlement.
